More dentist woes

Since the last time I blogged about them, my children have had their big dentist visits. Trey and Lexi saw Mrs. Dr. Doyle in one room while Mr. Dr. Doyle saw Zach in the other room. That way it didn't turn into an all day long visit for Dad (who was lucky enough to be the one to take them while giving Mom and Leah the opportunity to still attend MOPS).

Trey had an abcessed tooth that needed to be pulled. It was his front one, which Dr. Doyle had told us had been injured at some point along the way, probably from falling on it. Completely plausible considering the child. He also got sealants put on his 6 year molars. Necessary for my children. So far we haven't had a cavity in a permanent tooth. PTL.

Then Dr. Doyle worked on Alexis who had lost a filling and needed it replaced. Alexis loves to go to the dentist so that was easy for her. Dr. Doyle and the hygenist were actually very pleased with the behavior of our children. Model patients they were. This is such a blessing after the first few years of dentist nightmares with the oldest. Thankfully, Dr. Doyle never mentions that unfortunate time although she for sure remembers it.

Which brings us to the oldest. Mr. Dr. Doyle did Zach's root canal on his front tooth. Last fall he fell on the concrete and knocked his tooth completely loose. He actually had to push it up and back in place. No surprise that when we went for his check up, the nerve was dead and the tooth was starting to turn color. It would have turned black so when he did the root canal he bleached it and now that it has tightened back up it's back to normal.

This has been all good news up to this point. The children survived. The woe part comes with the news that I needed a root canal too. Mine was in my second molar and the cavity was actually big enough to be touching the nerve, causing a lot of pain. My experience was much worse than Zach's who was surprised I was actually in pain after the procedure. Because of the extent of the damage, Dr. Taylor needed to do a whole lot of digging and therefore it was much more traumatic on my mouth. I am starting to feel better now after 2 days, just in time to go back tomorrow and get my filling placed in that tooth.

Lord willing, this will be the end of our dentist woes for awhile.
