Big Hairy Deal

It started as a joke.  Back in January, we started doing a video series called Insanity.  Dave started dropping weight like crazy, it was amazing. One day, he didn't shave.  Then the next day he didn't shave and said something like maybe he wouldn't shave again until he was under 200 pounds.  One day turned into a week which turned into months until he looked like a mountain man. 

Last Friday, he finally sent me this picture from school. 

He made it!

Zoo

I found this picture of our trip to the zoo last month.

It puts me in mind of another picture that we took much longer ago.

Trey again

It seems like I've posted alot of pictures of Trey's face all banged up.  Like the time we had a car accident and he was the only one hurt.
And the time he fell while skiing.
At least this time doesn't involve a scar.  But it was pretty dramatic the way it happened.
I will start with the way I found out about it. I was at a Mom's Night Out.  Had just arrived in fact.  We were still standing around talking in the parking lot when I get a picture message and it says, "What do I do with this?"

Well I didn't even know what in the heck it was since the picture on my phone wasn't great, but it turned out to be Trey's mouth.  They were playing hide and seek and he was hiding in the woods behind our house.  Dave was in the house and heard Trey running to the door and screaming.  He looked around expecting blood and asked him what was wrong.  Trey responding by skidding to a stop and opening his mouth.  He had a stick lodged in there in the back of his mouth exactly sideways.  Dave reached in and pulled it out and realized there were actually TWO little pieces of sticks lodged in there together.  The story came out that he had been running, tripped and fell (with his mouth open apparently) and a stick broke just perfectly into his mouth. 

So after talking to Dave, wondering what I should do and what he would do, he decided he would just wait and see how it progressed.  Trey was complaining of pain but not overly so.  (He's pretty tough anyway). So he ended up being fine.

But it makes me wonder why big things like this happen when the mom is away.  When Leah was one, I was at a Hearts at Home conference and Dave called me from the ER.  She had tipped a chair backwards and needed stitches in her chin.  Oh well, I guess that's just the way of it.
I was thankful though, even though it was a pretty crazy event, it could have been much, much worse.  I say that about Trey alot.  He's either lucky or he has a pretty awesome guardian angel. Poor thing must be tuckered out!

DIY

I am loving that Blogger decided to update their format.  It is so easy now to do a post.  I don't have to dread it and set aside an hour to post 1 little thing. 

So I am not really a DIYer.  But sometimes when inspiration hits you have to act on it.  Dave was gone this past weekend and I had an idea to take a thing (for lack of a better term) that had been sitting in my closet and turn it into a message board to put by our phone.

This was my attempt at a before picture.  I held that blue board up there and took a picture.  I don't have anything blue like that in my kitchen so when I got this cool...thing...for free, my plan was to change it.  But I didn't know what to change it to until inspiration hit me last weekend. 

So I headed to the fabric store and bought some fabric and ribbon.  I also went to Office Max and bought some clear plastic file holders and covered them with fabric too. 

And it turned out like this!
I wanted to do it on my own and not bother Dave, but as it usually turns out, he had some really good ideas and it turned out better because he helped me. I still have to buy one hook to replace the one that got broken, but I like the effect overall.

Leah and I made these cute little cupcakes for Easter this year.  They are super easy to make.  Leah is totally my helper in the kitchen.  She LOVES, LOVES, LOVES to help.

Lexi's Concert

Alexis had a spring concert last week.

 She told me after the Christmas concert (and all she could talk about were the kids who had speaking parts) that she would audition for a part the next time it came up.

 The time finally arrived and she was so excited I thought she would pop.

 She was supposed to dress like a cowgirl, which you can't do without boots and a hat.  And who do I know that would own these things?  My friend Monica.  I was so happy she set us up.  Thanks Monica.

And thanks also to my mother who offered to turn a skirt of mine into a skirt for her.  She's a wonder!! 

Way to go Cowgirl Lexi!  We love you:)

Kittens

Our kittens are getting bigger.

We Have Baby Ducklings!

For the past 8 months our family has had heated debates about the gender of our cat. Lexi's friend told the kids we had a boy. She's in fourth grade so she must know these things right?

I really didn't know. I never touched the cat and never wanted anything to do with it so calling it a boy was fine by me.

A couple of weeks ago, Dave and Lexi discovered the cat was pregnant. Either that or very fat. We weren't really sure but as time went on it was pretty evident.

Last night, Dave came home and said, "Duck is having her kittens."

We tried to get a picture but she didn't really want company.

Every few minutes we went out to check and sure enough another one would show up. It was a fascinating process to watch.

So now we have ducklings!

The funniest part of all this, I think, was Trey.

Last night, after standing and watching Duck for a few minutes, he looked at me with the most serious expression and said, "Mom, I believe you now that Duck is a girl."
